Worker representatives have an opportunity to review and provide feedback on proposed changes to the Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD) Prevention Guide for Ontario.
The Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders (CRE-MSD) is leading a two year project to update the MSD Prevention Guide and is hosting this one-day event.
The workshop will review the draft approach and content for the revised Guide giving stakeholders a chance to assess the revised tools and approaches.
This is the first major revision to the Guide since it was produced ten years ago. Existing versions of these MSD prevention tools have proven invaluable and are used in WHSC training programs. To ensure the new tools continue to be useful, input from workers and their representatives is critical.
Despite this update, workers and their representatives repeat calls for a more protective ergonomics regulation. Work-related musculoskeletal disorders continue to account for about 40 per cent of lost-time injuries (LTIs) allowed by Ontario’s Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) – the single largest class of compensation claim.
