Consolidated Confined Space Regs will trigger WHSC program amendments
On April 16 the Ontario gazette reported that the Ontario cabinet passed several new regulations changing confined spaces requirements. The changes will come into effect on July 1, 2011. The new regulations revoke the sections of the four sector regulations addressing confined spaces and amending the Confined Spaces regulation to make that regulation apply across all sectors.
The WHSC is undertaking a review of all programs to identify and update all regulatory references affected by the changes. New versions of the sector regulations and the Confined Spaces regulations are also in production.
Because there were slight differences between the sector regulations’ treatment of confined spaces, moving to one regulation for all sectors will mean changes for some workplaces. The WHSC is completing an analysis of these changes and plans to provide an e-Note to instructors within the next two weeks that will include this analysis.
