Certified members of joint health and safety committees have significant rights and responsibilities under Ontario's Occupational Health & Safety Act. By law they must complete Certification training to help them fulfill these many legal duties. To maintain this knowledge and skill level certified members are encouraged to attend a Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) 2009 Certification Renewal session.
The Certification Renewal program will review the components of a successful workplace health and safety program and identify ways to better integrate the program with health and safety policy. Specific discussion will focus on emerging health and safety issues, new science, technological advances, changes to health and safety law and relevant industry standards.
This one-day program, designed to be taken annually, is Ontario's first re-certification program. Recertification is critically important for anyone with responsibility for the well-being of others. While not yet legally required, this program will set the standard for workplaces looking to ensure their programs meet legal requirements and encompass evolving hazards and regulatory changes.
