The labour councils of Eastern Ontario invite workers and their representatives to attend their annual spring health & safety/workers compensation educational.
Each of the five programs scheduled to run provides a unique worker-focus approach aiming to raise awareness, generate confidence and encourage renewed activism when participants return to their workplaces. Training developed by the Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) and the Ontario Federation of Labour's Occupational Disability Response Team (ODRT) are used in the curriculum offered. This includes the WHSC's new Level 1 Occupational Health & Safety Training Program. This program has long provided workers and others with a basic level of awareness along with tools and confidence many have used to further their activism. The updated version builds upon this, adding continuous bargaining strategies participants can use in their workplaces to secure safer and healthier working conditions and the overall work environment.
This unique training school is scheduled to begin the evening of Wednesday, March 24 running through Sunday, March 28, 2010. It will be held at the Isaiah Tubbs Resort and Conference Centre in Picton, Ontario.
Participants are asked to register by Wednesday, March 10, 2010 for one of the following programs:
- WHSC Level 1 Basic Occupational Health & Safety Awareness
- Confronting Bullying & Harassment/Violence in the Workplace
- Advanced JHSC Member and Certified Representative Strategies Workshop
- OFL-ODRT WCB Program Level 1 & 2
- OFL-ODRT WSIB Medical Orientation Program
