The Canadian Women’s Health Network and the National Network on Environments and Women's Health will host a free webinar Wednesday, September 12 to explore the health impacts on women employed in plastics manufacturing.
The presentation will focus on breast cancer risks among women workers, particularly those employed in blue-collar jobs. Researchers will review new research examining breast cancer risk among women autoworkers in southwestern Ontario. Of particular interest, are hormone-disrupting chemicals that can be released during plastics processing involving heating, pouring, grinding, assembly and decorating.
Invited speakers include Sari Sairanen, Director, Health and Safety, Canadian Auto Workers, James Brophy and Margaret Keith, chief researchers, “Women, Plastics and Breast Cancer Project” and Gina Desantis, a Windsor, Ontario auto worker. The event moderator is Anne Rochon Ford, Executive Director, CWHN.
