Yes. Canadian Red Cross First Aid & CPR programs are recognized across Canada, by all workplace safety and insurance boards.
What are the WSIB requirements?
WSIB regulates workplace safety education in Ontario and has set laws regarding first aid called Regulation 1101.
Per Regulation 1101: “All employers covered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (the Act) are required to have first aid equipment, facilities, and trained personnel in all workplaces.”.
For employers with 1 to 5 employees
Employers must ensure that their first aid station is at all times in the charge of a trained worker who holds a valid Emergency First Aid certificate. They must work in the immediate vicinity of first aid kit that contains the specific supplies as listed in the regulation and is known as an Ontario section 8 First Aid kit.
For employers with 6 to 15 employees
Employers must ensure that their first aid station is at all times in the charge of a trained worker who holds a valid Standard First Aid certificate. They must work in the immediate vicinity of first aid kit that contains the specific supplies as listed in the regulation and is known as an Ontario section 9 First Aid kit.
For employers with 16 to 200 employees
Employers must ensure that their first aid station is at all times in the charge of a trained worker who holds a valid Standard First Aid certificate. They must work in the immediate vicinity of first aid kit that contains the specific supplies as listed in the regulation and is known as an Ontario section 10 First Aid kit. There must also be a stretcher and two blankets at the worksite.
Employers with more than 200 or more employees
In addition to the required Ontario section 10 first aid kits at each work area, the employer must provide a first aid room. This room must be in the charge of a registered nurse, or a worker holding a Standard First Aid certificate, or its equivalent, and who does not perform other work of a nature that is likely to affect adversely his/her ability to administer first aid.
