Is your JHSC fully certified or in need of the mandatory refresher?

The law, experience and research recognize the need for properly trained JHSC members. After all their powers under the law are considerable.
Did you know following completion of Certification Part I training, (JHSC) Certification candidates are required to complete Certification Part II training to be considered fully certified? The training must be completed within one year of Certification Part I training, approved by the Chief Prevention Officer (CPO) of Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and must also address at least six hazards that are relevant to the JHSC’s workplace. In addition, to remain certified, successful completion of the Certification Refresher course is required every three years.

If you’re due for Part II training or require Certification Refresher – now is your chance to finish the year ensuring you’re fully certified and remaining in compliance. WHSC has scheduled Certification Part II general training and Certification Part II sector specific training – including education, health care and social services. View our product sheets to learn more about the sector specific training options available.

Your workplace can also build a custom Certification Part II program from our more than 40 hazard modules. Below you’ll find information on the general and refresher programs with a link to register.

Certification Part II - General

This program offers a convenient option for Ontario workplaces who want to quickly comply with the second phase of Certification training for JHSC members. Part II training must address at least six hazards relevant to the JHSC’s workplace. Delivered over two days in in-person classes and virtual classes, the general stream for WHSC Certification Part II training explores six of the most common workplace hazards through the following modules: Safety HazardsPhysical HazardsChemical HazardsErgonomics and MSDsBiological Hazards; and Psychosocial Hazards and Workplace Mental Health. For each hazard, participants will learn how to identify, assess and control, or better yet eliminate, hazardous exposures.

Certification Refresher

Certified members of JHSCs in Ontario must complete a Certification Refresher program approved by the Ministry of Labour’s CPO within three years of completing Certification Part II and every three years thereafter. Like many WHSC programs Certification Refresher training is delivered in traditional in-person classrooms, and virtual classrooms. Both are also CPO-approved. This program revisits key concepts from Certification training, including the information and tools essential for identifying, assessing and controlling, or better yet eliminating, workplace hazards. The program further affords participants the opportunity to share and discuss new or amended legislation/guidelines/standards, current or emerging issues, plus best practices for hazard elimination and control. This program is applicable to all Ontario workplaces.

Don’t let your JHSC certifications lapse. Workers are counting on JHSC expertise to help eliminate or at least mitigate injuries, illnesses and potential fatalities.
