WHSC brings virtual classrooms to Ontario workplaces

WHSC virtual classroom training
Ontario has entered Stage 3 of the province’s COVID-19 guidelines, but with Stage 3 public health experts advise many precautions like social distancing should remain in place.

As a result, Ontario workplaces are turning to the Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) to help coordinate virtual classroom training beyond what we have scheduled and posted on our website. Much like traditional classroom training, workplaces are contracting us for the specific training they need to meet the employer’s legal obligations and more, only now via virtual classroom training.

Critical learning, virtually assured

To ensure essential training integrity and validate the learner, all that is required of training participants is a high-speed internet connection and a computer with a properly functioning camera and audio.

The WHSC virtual classroom allows for live, real-time, online learning providing most of the benefits of traditional in-person training. In this space, training participants can interact and communicate with fellow participants and a highly qualified WHSC instructor, view and discuss learning resources and complete individual and group exercises. All is designed to ensure demonstrated learning so necessary to resolving real-world, workplace health and safety concerns.

For this virtual workplace option, workplaces can choose from almost any of our courses. Our complete catalogue is available online for your consideration. Have a look at the courses listed under the “Onsite Courses” tab. Or if easier, download and share any of our training course product sheets, including a handy listing of all our courses designed for workplace training needs. The only exception for the virtual option are those courses that require hands on training, courses like Working at Heights and a number of our operator training programs. (This said, should you have an urgent need for these types of courses, please contact one of our training service representatives to explore the possibility of securing this training in a limited fashion that adheres to required COVID-19 safety protocols.)

Meets training needs and obligations

Some of the more popular WHSC courses workplaces are choosing include courses like WHMIS, Certification training and COVID-19, this even though the courses are already scheduled virtually online. In such a way, they meet important legal training obligations or as in the case of COVID-19 a general duty to provide information and instruction about a significant workplace hazard. However, in such a way these workplaces are also effectively using the virtual training classroom to discuss their specific related health and safety concerns and potential solutions with each other.

Other courses workplaces will want to consider offering virtually include Worker Awareness training and Supervisor Awareness training, as both also meet legal training obligations. If you work in Federally regulated workplaces you will also want to consider virtual training for your joint workplace and policy health and safety committees. During these particularly trying times workplace mental stress is also on the minds of many. WHSC offers a number of courses to help address this issue, including our newest program entitled, Psychosocial Hazards and Workplace Mental Health.
