Workers Health & Safety Centre

WHSC training for federal JHSCs, end of summer special!

Did you know employers of federally-regulated workplaces have a legal obligation to train their joint health and safety committee members and health and safety representatives?

Regardless of jurisdiction, workers need the protection that properly trained joint health and safety committees (JHSCs) offer. With Workers Health & Safety Centre (WHSC) ensuring JHSCs are equipped with the training they need, compliance is made easy and effective. When workers and workplace representatives get the right training, safer, healthier work follows.

And you will want to take advantage of our end of summer affordable pricing. Our two-day comprehensive program is now $178 for a limited time.

Is your workplace federally regulated?

Workplaces that fall under federal jurisdiction include air transportation and airports, banks, most crown corporations, marine services, oil, gas and railway companies that cross international or provincial borders, grain and flour mills, broadcasting, telecommunications, transportation, mining and exploration.

Legal regulations and responsibilities...

The Canada Labour Code Part II requires all federally-regulated employers take steps to ensure the health and safety of their employees. Employers must provide training for members of workplace and policy JHSCs as well as health and safety representatives including their responsibilities under the code. By law JHSCs must play a significant role in developing policies and programs, new among these are the workplace hazard prevention and workplace violence and harassment programs, their implementation and monitoring. Other legal duties include workplace inspections, investigation of worker concerns, record keeping and participation in the implementation of workplace changes that might affect occupational health and safety.

How can you comply?

WHSC’s Federal Committees and Representatives - Virtual training meets and exceeds the prescribed content and compliance requirements set out in the code. To support those needing to train new and existing committees and representatives, WHSC has schedule a two-day training program for as little as $178.

About our two-day program

This program reviews participants’ rights and duties under federal health and safety laws and regulations with special focus on the role and responsibilities of workplace and policy committees. Methods for conducting workplace inspections and incident investigations are discussed along with strategies aimed at fostering active and confident members of workplace and policy committees. Updates to the program now include a focus on employer obligations to prevent workplace violence and harassment, stemming from changes to the Canada Labour Code regulations. Beyond legal considerations, the program further demonstrates how the two levels of health and safety representatives can communicate and work together effectively for change.
